This is a class where the student will be taught the tools to learn ANY dialect that they could possibly need to learn; a class for students who would like to learn three of the most common dialects that they are likely to be asked to work with. It is one thing to be able to do a British or Irish Dialect after taking a class, but it is quite another to have to tools to know that you can learn ANY dialect that you’d need to.

In this class students will learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), and Non-Regional American Dialect (NRAD) – the basis from which we can learn any other dialect – and then they’ll learn a Standard British, a Dublin Irish, and an American Southern Dialect.

Beyond just learning the dialects and tools, you have to learn how to handle the challenges that come with acting while maintaining a dialect. We’ll dive into scene work from some of the best dialect plays out there and ask some questions together… How does it affect the choices I make? How do I handle it in rehearsal when I’m still learning to speak with a dialect? How can I best prepare for a dialect audition? I have an accent now, how do I get rid of it and sound like I could be from anywhere? What advantage can I gain from becoming a proficient dialect actor?
