Director Michelle Danner and star Norman Reedus on set of "Hello Herman"

“Hello Herman,” a new feature film from L.A.-based All In Films has wrapped principal photography in Los Angeles area.

The story involves Herman, a high school student who has been a bully

magnet. Taunted and tormented, he armed himself and took revenge by shooting dozens in a bloody fury. Now incarcerated, a national debate springs up around him as to whether or not to execute him. He’ll tell his story to the world through one journalist, Lax Morales, an award-winning reporter who is haunted by his own past.

The events raise the question, to what extent do the participation of mass media and its audience contribute to the spiraling of violence in American culture?

Norman Reedus stars as Lax. Reedus is best known for his work in the Boondock Saints movies and the hit show “The Walking Dead.” His love interest is played by Martha Higareda, an acclaimed star in her native Mexico who starred with Keanu Reeves in “Street Kings.” Rob Estes from “90210” is playing Chet Clarkson, a political pundit. The film also stars newcomer Garrett Backstrom as the teenage shooter Herman Howards.

Michelle Danner directs “Hello Herman.” It is her second feature-length film, her first was “How to Go Out on a Date in Queens,” which starred Jason Alexander, Esai Morales, Kimberly Williams, Rob Estes and Alison Eastwood.  The film won Danner the Best Director Award at the LA Film Awards. A short film she produced and acted in, “Dos Corazones,” won two awards at the Malibu Film Festival. She also has dozens of stage directing credits in New York and Los Angeles. Known as an acting coach to the stars, she has worked with Zooey Deschanel, Gerard Butler, Chris Rock, Seth MacFarlane, Isla Fisher, James Franco, Salma Hayek and many more. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Edgemar Center for the Arts, in a beautiful Frank Gehry-designed complex in Santa Monica, which is home to two theatres, an art gallery and an acting studio.

The screenplay is by John Buffalo Mailer, adapted from his play of the same name. The son of Norman Mailer, he collaborated with his father on “The Big Empty.”  Back House Productions, an entity John co-founded, developed the Tony-winning musical “In The Heights.”
